Animals living in natural conditions rarely approach their maximum age, there are many reasons for this: hunting, diseases, predators and others. Consider the champions of the animal world.
Centenarians
Mammals, compared to other living things, can live very long. But these are only a few species, the remaining eyelids are not long. The bowhead whale stands out, a real record holder.
Scientists believe that the maximum possible age for this giant is 211 years. Three males were studied, whose age has definitely exceeded 100 years (in one of them a harpoon tip was found over a century old).
Further, strangely enough, there is a man (also a mammal). He is quite capable of living over a hundred years, and the official record belongs to Jeanne Kalman, 122 years old. Although there were people, and indeed there are now, who lives longer, but cannot confirm this with documents.
Orcas are also able to live over a hundred years, the record holder among them is an individual named Granny, who was 103 years old. But the elephants, which also can boast of age, do not reach the century, their limit is about 80 years.
Centenarian birds
It is widely believed that wise crows live longer than any other bird. And their age can exceed one hundred, or even two hundred years. But this is not true, the raven, who was 59 years old, was officially taken into account, this is the limit. But there are birds whose age is approaching one hundred years.
Ara parrot can live up to 60–80 years, while the age of their reproduction ranges from 30 to 35 years. In general, it is parrots that are the most long-living birds. For example, in one of the zoos there lived a handsome cockatoo named Cookies, who was caught back in 1933.
Theoretically, albatrosses can reach a considerable age. So far, ornithologists know a male nicknamed Wizd, who recently turned 63 years old and is still caring for chicks. Flamingo Gritter lived in one of the zoos for 83 years.
Longevity Turtles
The most famous centenarians are, of course, turtles. Of these, the gigantic turtle Seychelles stands out. An individual caught on Aldabra Island has lived in the Calcutta Zoo for almost 250 years. Her name was Advaita.
Another turtle of the same subspecies, Jonathan, is preserved on the island of St. Helena, she recently turned 186 years old. Over a century, individual individuals and Galapagos turtles lived, for example, the famous Lonely George, the last representative of his subspecies.
Lizards
On several tiny islands off the coast of New Zealand, ancient lizards live, peers of dinosaurs, this is tuatara. One person, a male named Henry, turned 117 years old.
10 ten years ago, a giant lobster was caught in the Atlantic. As scientists determined, his age was about 150 years. Although they wanted to sell and eat it for a lot of money, the public was outraged and the lobsters were released.
Mollusks
Among the mollusks also have their own champions. This, for example, guidaki able to live up to 170 years officially, but unofficially even more.In the dark waters of the Arctic live Kuahogi mollusks, the maximum age of those caught was 507 yearsthat is, they can probably live even longer. Red sea urchins are also distinguished, which can exist for more than two hundred years.
The eel is capable of reaching the centennial; it is believed that the oldest of those caught was a 106-year-old individual from Finland. But the record holders among the fish are, of course, the Greenland sharks. In general, their average age is two hundred years, and the maximum is over 400 years.
As you can see, nature has not very fairly distributed the life cycles of its various creations. Some live moments, others centuries. But the clonal colony of poplars in America as much as 80,000 years. Apparently, she is the champion of the animal world.
